Planner, Senior Planner or Graduate Planner
Council is seeking a Planner, Senior Planner or Graduate Planner to join our dynamic planning team. This full-time position is based in Sorell, offering the successful candidate the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development and growth of the local area.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
- Providing professional planning advice and assessments for a variety of development applications, including residential, commercial and community projects
- Conducting site inspections and preparing detailed planning reports and recommendations for Council’s consideration
- Liaising with applicants, stakeholders and the community to understand and address planning-related matters
- Assisting with the implementation of Council’s strategic planning initiatives and policies
- Staying up-to-date with changes in planning legislation and best practices
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- Tertiary qualification in Urban Planning, Town Planning or a related discipline
- Relevant experience in a planning or development assessment role, with strong knowledge of planning legislation and development processes
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and apply planning policies and regulations
- Flexibility, adaptability and a proactive approach to ensuring the timely and effective delivery of planning outcomes
- The preferred candidate will be a team player with a good eye for detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, will be a proactive problem solver and an attitude towards working with and assisting the community.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Tertiary qualifications in land use planning or a relevant discipline
- Land use planning experience, preferrable within the Tasmanian system
- Understanding of planning principles, practice, legislation and processes
- Problem solving skills with the ability to analyse, investigate and report on planning matters accurately and efficiently
- Skills in managing time, setting priorities, organising work to ensure outputs meet legislative requirements, community expectations and acceptable planning outcomes
- Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively liaise with and advise community, developers, applicants and government agencies
- Current unrestricted motor vehicle driver’s licence
- Membership of Planning Institute of Australia or eligibility for membership
